Impervious surfaces are sidewalks, streets, parking lots, and rooftops that don’t allow stormwater to seep into the ground. As cities develop, the amount of impervious surfaces increase, less water “infiltrates” into the ground, and more runoff is created.  Water that sinks into soil travels slowly to creeks and rivers and helps them sustain aquatic life through drier spells.  Runoff, over impervious surfaces flows very rapidly to our creeks and rivers, which worsens erosion and flooding.

The City of Catoosa’s stormwater program is based on a respect for natural systems.  Our city stormwater fee gives us dedicated funds to maintain our stormwater system and improve drainage problems that already exist.

The City of Catoosa is also dedicated to creating no new drainage problems.  Floodplain development is strictly limited and drainage plans and stormwater detention is required for new development.
