Like many other small cities in the United States, Catoosa is required to have a Stormwater Discharge Permit for the city’s discharge into area streams, ponds, and rivers. As part of this permit, Catoosa developed a Stormwater Management Program designed to reduce the discharge of pollutants from its municipal storm sewer system to protect water quality and satisfy the water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act. Activities in the Stormwater Management Program include public education, school programs, the adoption of a local stormwater ordinance, requirements for developers, training of municipal staff, and a program to investigate illicit discharges and illicit connections to the storm sewer system.
A number of small cities and counties joined forces to create the Green Country Stormwater Alliance to collectively address stormwater pollution regionally. The Green Country Stormwater Alliance website provides educational materials, and resources for construction, homeowners, and businesses.
